GEILO – the NAVVIS’ Road / FLÅM – VOSS – BERGEN
From
the Top of NORWAY to the Coastline and the old trade city of BERGEN
This new tour offers cyclists the chance to actively
enjoy the magnificent scenery. You can cycle on roads with very little traffic
from the high mountains through fertile valleys down to the shores of the fjord.
A tremendeous nature exitement, covering from the wellknown Resort Geilo and
across the Hardangervidda Plateau along the ”Rallarroad”,
( the Navvies’ Road ) constructionroad from building Bergen Railroad in
early 1900, and visit the Sognefjord by Flåm Valley. Towards the western Norway
to Voss Resort, having a romantic Grieg consert in the historical Fleischer’s
Hotel. Approaching the Fjord, climbing the only strong hillside and passing
through the charming, wild and beautiful Eksinge Valley with typical old
roadconstuctions, meeting the Osterfjord and some tremendous waterfalls like
Hesjedalsfossen, where you can walk behind the water. By Stamnes you join the
old ship M/S Bruvik, who takes you around the island out the fjord to Bergen.
You might prolong your stay in Bergen getting enough time to explore this
charming city of the old german trade people ”Hanseaten”

TUESDAY:
Meeting point in BARDØLA Høyfjellshotel before dinner. After dinner
INFO and you get the maps and descriptions of the route.
If you need to hire
bikes you should book in advance.
WEDNESDAY: After
breakfast where you make your own lunchpackage, the tour starts along Rd7
passing Ustaoset to Haugastøl. Here you take off the main road and follow
”Rallarvegen” into the valley Ustekveikjadalen towards Finse. Slightly
uphill all day, and along the road you pass Storundi Café in an old caringhouse
from the railline. We follow the river into the valley and before reaching Finse
you will have a magnificant viewof the glacier Hardangerjøkulen. Dinner and
overnight in FINSE 1222.
Start 800m – end 1.222m / 22km asphalt and 27km gravelled road
THURSDAY:
After breakfast you can visit the Rallarmuséet (story about the workers
constructing the railroad) and then continue the biketour up to the highest
pointon 1.343m by lake Fagervatn. On the road towards Hallingskeid you will
still meet snow till mid august and you’l have to ”walk” the bike. Last
leg through the narrow pass of Klevagjelet where you should be careful by
passing an unsecured part of the road. Great old bridge with stonearch and well
down to flat areayou can buy
”vafler” in Seltuft Café before you reach today’s goal, you can bike down
the fantastic Flåmsdalen and stay in the new Flåmsbrygga Hotel. Dinner.
You must try the new beer produced in the neighbour house.
Start 1.222m – 1.341m – 2m / 52km on gravelled road with some shorter
distances with snow till August.
FRIDAY:
A good breakfast and a lunchpackage safely in your luggage before you get
on the FLÅM Railroad 09.50 up to Myrdal. At Myrdal station you have to take the
train at 11.10 to get through the Gravhals tunnel. By Upsete you get off and
start the ride of the valley of Raundalen down to Voss, an old tourist resort at
the Lake Vangsvatnet. Here you can enjoy the afternoon free and you will stay in
the Vossevangen Hotel. Dinner.
Start 850m – 50m / 43km gravelled road
SATURDAY:
A little longer leg is waiting for you on the way to the coast. From Voss,
the route takes you along the shores of Vangsvatnet, to Evanger and up Teigdalen
– a typical example of the narrow, wild glens of western Norway, with small
farms clinging to the hillsides. The real trial of strength and the only long
climb en route is over the Nesheimfjellet mountains, to a height of 720 m above
sea level. ( Ride by car can be arranged at Mestad Camping (NOK 300). You’ll
be rewarded with a spectacular view! On the other side of the mountains, the
road winds its way down through Eksingedalen, with its many waterfalls. Here you
will overnight in a small and charming lodge Dalastova or Godmorstova (depence
on vacancies). May be you don’t get your own sleepingroom.
Start 50m – 720m – 100m (Dalastova) / 60m (Godmorstova) 44km/48km asphaltroad
SUNDAY:
The last leg to Bergen will be somewhat special.
Eksingedalen - Stamnes ca. 30 km, "Fjordadventure"
Stamnes - Bergen onboard MV "Bruvik" (call
at Stamnes 12.00 hrs).
First along the rich fishing river Ekso on a typical old country road; a
meeting with old roadconstruction, and down to the fjord comes the impressing
waterfall Hesjedalsfossen, a perfect place for rest. Along the fjord you will
see old salmon”giljene”.
Passing Stamnes
you continue along the narrow fjordarm until you after 31km reach the
E16. Local road the last 4 km to Dale. Possible to visit the knitware fabric
"Dale of Norway" (jackets and sweathers) before you at 15.02 leave by train to Bergen. Arrival in Bergen 15.52
and short ride through the city center to Thon Bergen Brygge Hotel, or to the Terminus Hotel
close to the railway station. Free

MONDAY:
After breakfast you can explore Bergen and optional at 10 am you can
follow a guided City Sightseeing.

After breakfast you take the train back to Geilo to pick up your car or
use other transportation home or continue your holiday in Norway. If you want to
